Colorscape
In each acrylic block print, artist Malu Tan explores the minimalistic and subtle qualities of a landscape by painting a closely cropped tableaux of the sky, trees, and field. Tan beautifully reduces each landscape to basic lines and blocks of color. Her paint colors blend into each other, evoking an atmospheric feel while texture is utilized to create interest and movement. This process is both intentional and experimental.
The simplicity of the horizontal bands, void of detail and juxtaposed with color and dimensionality, captures the viewer’s attention, and invites curiosity. Tan’s paintings offer a sense of place that is both familiar and new; they explore the deep silence within nature and ourselves.
